Harker Square, also known as Harker Park by Twinfordites, is a square in Twinford. Harker Square is called "the smart square in the centre of town". [1] It is first mentioned in Ruby Redfort, Catch Your Death.

The square is a medium size, not as big as Central City Park. It has plane trees and apple trees and lots of hedges, clipped into shapes.[2] There are also lots of rose bushes in the square. There are lots of benches, and the benches and the shade provided by the trees means Harker Square is very popular.

The park also features "modern and surprising" fountains - they spray water unexpectedly - as well as traditional fountains.[1] Some of the "surprising" fountains are near the rose bushes, as Mrs Digby finds out when she finds the feathers in a bush there; she was "soaked through" by the fountains and tore her dress on the rose bushes.[3]

Around the square are Art Deco-style shops and offices, including Melrose Dorff.

There is an outdoor table-tennis table in Harker Square, which is popular with Ruby's friends (especially Elliot).

In Catch Your Death, the table tennis table is half destroyed by Flemming Fengrove's Sumatran Tiger and the Lapis Bowerbird builds its nest in a hedge in the Square.

Trivia[]

  • Mrs Beesman sits in the park every morning at around 8:00.
  • Brant Redfort passes her on his way to work as he passes through Harker Square.[2]
