Gemma Melamare is a minor character in the Ruby Redfort series, who attends Twinford Junior High School with Ruby. She is a friend of Vapona Begwell, and she is also a bully. She also wears too much makeup and is overdramatic. She gets so much attention from boys and boys are really fond of her because she is pretty, cute and a perfect definition of sexy. She finds entertainment in spreading lies and rumours about people but Ruby and Clancy never falls for them.

The girl jeering at him was Vapona Begwell (or Bugwart, as she was known by most of the school), one of the few kids who did not like Ruby. But then Vapona didn’t particularly like anyone. Vapona Begwell was an unfortunate-looking girl, sour-faced and mean with it. Tall but strangely lumpy with a sort of leery stoop that made her look very much like a cartoon bully — which was sort of what she was. She hung out with Gemma Melamare, a total viper with cute blue eyes and a snub nose, who lurked at Vapona’s side and leaked poison into the schoolyard, spreading rumors and setting friends against friends. It never worked on Clancy and Ruby; they were wise to the Melamare menace.
Gemma Melamare was just the kind of girl to shriek her head off in order to get out of class or to attract some boy’s attention. She got a lot of attention from boys because she was perfectly pretty, as sweet-looking as her cohort, Vapona Begwell, was not. Like Vapona, Gemma was unpleasant, really unpleasant, but due to being such a perfect portrait of cute, people found this hard to take on-board. Beauty can throw a lot of people off the scent.
